Kanatsiohareke Mohawk Community, Fonda 518-673-2534 A small group of traditional Mohawks farm, cultivate, and preserve this land. This is the original Mohawk name for Canajoharie. Features craft shop, workshops and festivals.

Windfall Dutch Barn, Salt Springville is a pre-revolutionary restored structure, seated on its original site. This site was used as a resting and feeding place during the wagon march by general Clinton on the way to the Susquehanna River. Now used for concerts and private parties.

Shrine of North American Martyrs, Auriesville. 518-853-3033 Site of the America's first and only canonized Martyrs. Here is the birthplace of the Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, the Lily of the Mohawks, born at Ossernenon in 1656, just ten years after these Martyrdoms.

Herkimer Home State Historic Site, Herkimer, 1764. Visit the Georgian-style mansion that was the home to courageous Revolutionary War hero, General Nicholas Herkimer.

Herkimer Diamond Mines, Inc, Herkimer 315-891-7355 Serves an international market for prospecting, camping, fishing. It holds the largest jewelry store in the northeast, an extensive geological museum and three dining opportunities. Educational group packages are accommodated.

Old Fort Johnson National Historic Site, Amsterdam, on Mohawk River, it was here that William Johnson called together the six nations of the Iroquois before the French and Indian War. Later he married Molly Brant.

Walter Elwood Museum, Amsterdam, 518-843-5151 The museum collection is housed in a 100-year old brick building which formally served as an elementary school. 25,000 artifacts fall into four categories: multicultural, victorian, natural history, and items that relate to Mohawk Valley's colorful industrial past (documentary, photographic and tangible).

Noteworthy Indian Museum, Amsterdam, 518-843-4761 Developed from over 60,000 artifacts, the museum quality clay pots, stone tools, beadwork and baskets tell the story of the Mohawk. Open June - August. Call for times.
