The Canalway Trail
A mecca for bikers, the Canalway Trail runs through Canajoharie along the roadbed of the former South Shore Railroad, parallel to the Mohawk River. It is part of a 60-mile contiguous stretch of trail that goes from Waterford to St. Johnsville. It is used for hiking, bicycling, in-line skating and cross-country skiing. No motorized vehicles are permitted. The trail surface is stone dust. The statewide Canalway Trail system consists of 240+ miles of recreational trails. The annual bike tour from Albany to Buffalo passes through here every July. For more information please visit New York Parks and Trails on the web.
