The Canajoharie Farmers Market opens its third season on May 19, 2010. This year we’ll be open two days a week! Our days/hours/locations are:
Wednesdays 4pm-6pm in the parking lot of the Dutchtown Ace Hardware Store in Palatine Bridge and Saturdays 10am-1pm in the parking lot of the Arkell Museum.
Our vendors will be offering the best of locally grown vegetables, fruits, greens, bedding plants, preserves, eggs and meats. As you know, supporting local agriculture is important for all involved. You benefit from knowing where your food comes from and how it is raised. The producers benefit by being able to earn their living from the good stewardship of their land and animals. Our beautiful farmlands are preserved and cared for responsibly. Our farm animals are treated with respect and allowed to live as natural a life as possible.
Our vendors work long and hard to produce their products, harvest them, package them, and bring them to the market. We’re asking you to consider us when planning your meals and food shopping. We understand that it is easier to just buy everything from a big supermarket where much of the food is shipped from thousands of miles away, the produce is often raised in an unsustainable manner and retains residues of chemicals dangerous to us and our fragile environment, and the animals are fed antibiotics and unwholesome foods and live in appalling conditions. Easier? Perhaps it is, in the short term. Without the strong support of our local consumers, we won’t be able to keep doing what we’re doing. So we are asking you to help us by visiting us our markets and taking a look at what we have to offer. If you are a small or established producer you should consider joining us. The more vendors and variety we have the more attractive we are to consumers. We are easy to join and our rules are minimal.
